Are Cows Mindful
Are Cows Mindful?

There you have it in a nutshell, are cows mindful? The reason I ask is simply this, how could any creature exist, whatever its level of intelligence in a small area doing the same thing for the whole of its lifetime. Its imperative is to exist, therefore it eats, drinks and sleeps like every living thing. Im suggesting that a cow is so mindful of the moment, it can live that moment every single day and not appear bored or distracted from the task in hand. Could you, in all reason, stand in a field all day, eating and not get bored? Now you are going to talk to me about intelligence, whatever your argument on this one is, Im suggesting that the cows existence is more rewarding. Does our supposed intelligence, make us happy, simply put no?
With all that brain power we have and collective intelligence, we still crave more. You see a sunset over the beach and sea. That’s beautiful, the next night, I know what would make this better, a long cool beer. The following night, maybe a comfy chair. The next a smooth cuban cigar. How far away from the perfection of the moment do you want to get? Eventually you have music, other people, phones and the sunset is lost, the aching moment of the sun dropping below the sea on the horizon is missed, because you were busy with unnecessary stuff trying to improve what was already perfect. Just accept it is all perfect and live and enjoy the moment.
You don’t have to believe in God for this, but, I heard someone say, God doesn’t do imperfect! That being the case, whatever your interpretation of God is, there is a perfect reason for existence to everything. I used to crave understanding of my purpose. My mind blew up wondering about what I was supposed to do. By giving up on the worrying and accepting, my life changed for the better. Mindfulness is so difficult to do, it sounds easy. Well, what about drinking a glass of orange:
The oranges were grown
By people trying to make a living
In an area specifically cultivated for that purpose
They were tended until ready
Someone/Something picked them (if it was something there was a whole team of people behind the manufacture of that thing)
They were packed
They were transported
Delivered via many different vehicles (same again)
The fuel for the vehicles and where it came from, not just drilling but the pre existence
Priced and placed into a shop
You bought them from the shop
You already had a juicer to hand
You got a glass (manufacture?)
The juice went into the glass
You savoured the taste of the appreciation of the flavour and the journey and all of the many people involved in getting it to you.
The effect inside your stomach, ultimately the bladder to relieving yourself.
Or did you just pick up a juice carton pour and drink, no further thought in the matter. Why did you want the juice at that moment, why not water or tea? So a simple thing becomes complex and wondrous. I like to think about the Japanese formal ceremonies such as the tea ceremony, Iv never had the pleasure to experience, but the consideration to each moment, the attention is simply pure and full of wonder.
The easiest way into the moment is to stop and breath. Bring your mind into the breathing and out of the thoughts running through your mind. At that point you can appreciate the now and become mindful. My original question was are cows mindful? I believe they are, and I love them and you for it. Xxx
