Its my Birthday
Its My Birthday!
Its my birthday, ok maybe not today, but definitely tomorrow. I felt that being the case I might reflect on my year. A time to be thankful for my life.
Obviously, you all know that we went through our separation in May, a stressful time to be sure. However, I got to reconnect with my boys whom you know are very important to me. They love where I am living as it is more like a holiday camp to them. Clearly they haven’t been here during the cold season yet.
I got to find my masonic friends who have dug deep to help me through the dark times. Not only have they gone beyond, me being normally miserable, but they cajoled me into doing new things. Saving money, going out and seeing a very different side of life.
I got to be thankful for people at work who also supported me, even to the tune of signing over a car when mine blew up. Crazy I know, but these are the things that have been happening.
I read a book called “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, if you have not read it, I thoroughly recommend it as an incredible journey of self discovery. Exactly like I am trying to do. It has caused me to do things in the present, so if I go shopping, instead of being plugged into podcasts or audiobooks, I am focussed solely on the task in hand, it even makes you smile because even the most boring things can be enjoyable if you bother to be present.
You may have noticed I no longer scan the phone whilst you talk to me, I try to be there to concentrate and listen.
Life is very different!
Have I lost any weight? Of course not, but you knew that, am I finding things to do with my time? You bet, starting new martial arts and yoga and getting out and about into town.
So, as its my birthday tomorrow, instead of thanking people for presents and cards and all that jazz, I want to thank you for being my friend. I sincerely mean that, you have been there for me through some very difficult times and Im sure more to come, but because you are there I can carry on. I do find things to be positive about and occupy my mind.
As a mason I am taught perseverance is necessary to establish perfection, so I will keep trying to get better, happier and thinner. I think the fun is in the journey.
