British Military Fitness Part 5
Yesterday I learnt a valuable lesson, had a major break through and got myself into horrendous difficulties all in one go. Let me begin.
I arrived a bit earlier than normal and got gabbing with the instructor for the night Josh ex army and marine and the fit puppy who Id seen previously taking part and also doing the challenge, who set the monster record. Again, trepidation set in, because you don’t get to be that good without hard work. He took some pleasure in telling me I was a Jackson Squat virgin. What the hell that meant I could only guess.
Warm up was quick, followed by a dash up to the top field and some exercise sets on an extremely inconveniently placed set of steps, devilishly designed for maximum effect for sick puppies like Josh, I was already getting ready to hoof my guts out and this was the warm up.
On arriving in the top field we seemed to superset squats of every kind until my legs were jelly, I’m not kidding I couldn’t even move them and this went on and on and on. Then we had some partner work (Oh and I found out I don’t like the Jackson Squat) which was equally murderous, followed by cunningly changed chest presses using your partners weight against them, followed by more jelly leg runs.
Warm down was ok, I was fighting for breath and I can say this was easily my worst session, where on earth does British Military Fitness keep finding all these nasty, sick dudes? I did manage to hold onto my chunder but I was most definitely struggling to breathe. I have a bit of a cold and also in my mind was a bit of a scare from the blood clot I had a few years back that went through my lungs and the possibility that I wasn’t as able as I was previously. So I made the journey home but was too weak to stop and get something to eat, figuring I would eat once I got home, with some porridge or some such. Breathing became harder and harder until I was in a real panic and desperate to get home and out of the car.
When I got home, I did not want to worry Pam (Keith’s mum) I was going to find Amanda, as I was definitely not OK, however she was with Pam, so I opened the door, as soon as the heat inside hit me, I knew I was going to keel over, so I took myself outside so I didnt damage anything indoors. I can’t describe clearly what happened because I don’t know, I was gone and out of it completely. An ambulance was called and they did all the necessary tests after I came to and deduced that I had not eaten enough for the work I had done. My argument was that it would have been chundered up but that did not carry any weight with them. With all the explanations I had a choice of options open to me, and my preferred was to stay at home and have hot food, which Amanda cooked for me. I then showered and she insisted I stay at their house so they could keep an eye on me during the night. The damn cough kept me awake the whole night and I got up this morning thoroughly exhausted.
I resolved to get some day medicine and some good stuff to knock me out and control the cough at night, which I now have so hopefully a better night will ensue.
Lessons learnt: eat properly during the day and make sure I have plenty of the right calories and maybe an energy drink, I need to check on that.
Im not as young as my mind tells me and I have a recovery period that I should allow for.
Most wonderfully, after all that exercise my body recovered from the hell and I have no aching or soreness at all, after the hardest session ever.
Resolutions: Im still dizzy when I get up, and the cough is still on board, so given that I am going to postpone Wednesday night’s session and give my body a chance to catch up. Iv got a ton of paperwork the ambulance left me in case I have to go in again, it will be a quicker process. I do not want that to happen.
