British Military Fitness Part 7

Well the traffic in Maidstone was horrendous, and even though I set out at 6pm, I didnt get through the other side until 7:30. By the time I would have got up to training I would have missed it all. I chose to turn around and run around Moat Park, with a little bit of the shizzle that the BMF guys do.

I am an observer, and student, so it is a good opportunity to share some lessons. Looking at the guys who attend, they put themselves out on a cold wintery night, rain or frost and train in the mud, dodging dog crap. This is motivation people. Regular people getting out there, and as Nike says “just do it”. There is another school of thought that 80% of an achievement happens just by turning up, this makes it an achievement just getting past the weather and training. I have been thinking more on this and why I chose BMF. I could have done anything nice and easy inside, but there would have been excuses as to why I neednt go, like its raining, or the instructor isnt there. There is none of that crap with BMF, turn up get on and go home. That is motivating just saying it.

I am going to need to learn about food, this is critical, and listening to health podcasts, there are so many do’s and dont’s. I am going to learn, and I am going to get it right. I am motivated and ready for changes. This in turn will affect my life, at home and work. There are so many positives I can take out of a bad year. I come across as negative, my first reaction to questioning is contrary, I have just got into a habit of doing that to ensure all sides of an argument are addressed. Those who know me, will know that I will then get on and do the task anyway.

I have discovered in BMF that I can do thumb up bum and brain in neutral really well, this allows me to keep going, it is a kind of pacing myself. I am happy with the way my body has adjusted to the training and am now confident, after christmas I am going to go into three times a week (where possible) by adding in a Boxercise class. This appeals to my martial arts side, and intrigues me for the cardio workout that I am sure it will be.

I have been watching my food and it seems to be all fresh and healthy, I have switched to regular butter rather than spreads, but this is coupled with overall reduction in the bread I eat. Avoidance of the devil, I am now going to research some of the super foods and health options and spend money wisely on better fuel for my body. The cleaner I can make that the better I will feel. Plus I have also learnt about the benefits of super hydrating my body and how that helps regeneration.

All in all I am excited and ready for the challenge of the year ahead, I note that BMF does challenges and events, so when I am ready I am going to head into these and take the challenges head on. How about you? What is your next step? I heard a great new years resolution is to create a lifestyle that requires no new years resolution. Try it!
