My Musings

Things I Wish I Knew

Things I wish I knew

There were many things I wish I knew at the age of 16. I have decided that I must force myself into journalling, writing down things that are recountable. My memory has got worse lately, I put it down to large doses of medication over the last ten years, but equally, it could be down to the ability to not focus on my thoughts and random things that pop into my brain. For now, I am going to write these mind musings down, then jump into the things I wish I knew. I beg your patience with me, as I haven’t developed a style or process.

My understanding of Consciousness
Here are my musings on the three parts of consciousness and don’t forget what a massive subject this is, right down to a philosophical argument. Don’t hate on me, if you want to discuss, then let us do that sensibly and with respect for each other’s point of view.
Basic Consciousness
Reactions and instinct drive from this level, you could say, the pre-programming, similar to the functionality of a car, it comes with everything you need installed, you just need to let it do it’s thing in emergencies.
Consciousness
This involves the brain, a place for thoughts and knowledge, body experience, pain and pleasure. In the car analogy the car (body) takes you to places to the experience of living, it creates programming that occurs in a linear fashion and only happens based on your experience. For instance, you cannot talk in Italian, unless you have experienced it.
Higher Consciousness
This is what I refer to as the heart experience, gut feelings, senses, emotions. Time does not exist in linear fashion in this area but rather is a quantum experience, in other words, you could experience those things randomly from quantum tunnels. Higher consciousness is separate to the vehicle, so again in the car analogy, ie. the driver of the car is separate to the vehicle, and can move and exist outside of the car. The more, you move out of basic and consciousness into the heart experience the less concerned with the reality around you you become. This part of our conscious being is not a part of our humanity. Therefore, Im saying that experiential happenings are part of humanity and the higher state separates you from the vehicle and a more spiritual experience. The higher consciousness always exists so the question is, at what point does it join and leave a body?

Going back to things I wish I knew as a younger person I have to say that I wished Id known that happiness does not come from material things, neither should it come from experiences, but should be a state of contentment of yourself and the circumstances you find yourself in at that particular moment. Randomly I note that a spiritual path leads you to enlightenment, yet that does not mean joy, since that is a human experience. For me enlightenment is understanding the consciousness and the thoughts that pass through the mind, accepting and noting them and moving beyond them without attachment. In other words, something happens to you, can you let it go, an ex partner over a divorce. Does it still hurt, are you still carrying the burden of conscious pain? If your joy/happiness/contentment is based in the heart space, you will find it projects easily to others, in other words, it becomes infectious. If it is an experiential joy then, people are not so invested in feeling it. Their joy might not be supercars or the sound of a V8 engine. I hope you can see the difference in the process there.

Im going to challenge you for one week. Are you up for the challenge? I want you to keep a notepad with you, and as your day goes by, where you are working or doing nothing, write down those random thoughts that jump into your brain. Things like birthdays, food, jobs, calls, parties. You know what I mean. Just write it down as a keyword, then at the end of each day, assign a tally to the random thoughts you have had. You will start to see that a lot of your time is given to needless wandering of the mind. And if you have a question or different viewpoint on anything I have spoken about, ask in the comments below, or maybe you have a things I wish I knew at sixteen you want to add. Feel free to chuck it in the comments and thank you for getting this far.
