British Military Fitness Part 9
Second day of the week out for British Military Fitness, and it looked like it was going to rain today, I wasn’t hopeful on waking up to -2 deg in the mobile, so I figured it was going to be a hard session. Tonight was Andy’s session to run, it is a lottery for that, you turn up, never knowing what you are going to get, a bit like Forest Gump! He hit the spot anyway by saying it was going to be boxfit, something I had particularly been looking forward to trying my hand at. The instructions were very clear, partner up and do not try and hit the…

British Military Fitness Part 8
It is the start of a new year, 2015 and my first session back to British Military Fitness. Very nervous again, because of the christmas break, not because of overeating, in fact, I didn’t tuck into food much at all, bar one day. The rest of the time have not really felt up to it. No, I was nervous because I still have the remnants of a cough, and my ribs are really hurting like they have been digged, when I used to do kung fu training, and they were the easy target. It was Josh taking class tonight, he is the one, I was ill after last time,…

Merry Christmas To All
Merry Christmas To All It is Christmas Eve 2014. Presents sorted, food shop done and cleaned up the house top to toe. I have people to visit today and I am then ready for Christmas and the New Year. My plans for the New Year, are to smash it. Stop Press! Electrical emergency and joined Keith on a call out, we must consider ourselves fortunate when you see the luck of some people. Cooking a nice lunch, giant mushroom, sausage, bacon, beans and poached egg. Lovely jubbly, then back into doing what was planned, and getting along to the christmas service at the church at six this evening. I wanted…

British Military Fitness Part 7
British Military Fitness Part 7 Well the traffic in Maidstone was horrendous, and even though I set out at 6pm, I didnt get through the other side until 7:30. By the time I would have got up to training I would have missed it all. I chose to turn around and run around Moat Park, with a little bit of the shizzle that the BMF guys do. I am an observer, and student, so it is a good opportunity to share some lessons. Looking at the guys who attend, they put themselves out on a cold wintery night, rain or frost and train in the mud, dodging dog crap. This…

British Military Fitness Part 6
British Military Fitness Part 6 Well, that is my first night back after my little set back, for which, I have taken a fair amount of ribbing. To be fair, I probably deserved that. I prepared today, eating a good breakfast, a protein and carb dinner at lunch time, a couple of bananas and a porridge when i got in, with plenty of milk. I have to say I was a bit nervous about tonight, even more so than my first time going. Was the old body going to be alright, had I prepared well enough? The instructor, I didn’t catch his name, was hardcore tonight. I watched Josh powering…

British Military Fitness Part 5
#454551535 / gettyimages.com British Military Fitness Part 5 Yesterday I learnt a valuable lesson, had a major break through and got myself into horrendous difficulties all in one go. Let me begin. I arrived a bit earlier than normal and got gabbing with the instructor for the night Josh ex army and marine and the fit puppy who Id seen previously taking part and also doing the challenge, who set the monster record. Again, trepidation set in, because you don’t get to be that good without hard work. He took some pleasure in telling me I was a Jackson Squat virgin. What the hell that meant I could only guess.…

British Military Fitness Part 4
British Military Fitness Part 4 I turned up on Saturday morning apprehensively for my fitness test. At the duly appointed time, some very fit puppies started to arrive, all looking in really good shape and not a blue vest amongst them, apart from me and my tight fitting blue sports bra, and a cheeky bit of belly hanging out the bottom. Andy asked for people doing the challenge, which threw me a bit as I was expecting a test, however in retrospect, what the hell was I expecting it was always going to be hard, of course it was a challenge. When I was the only one with a hand…

British Military Fitness Part 3
British Military Fitness Part 3 I would not want you to think that because of all the pain, that I am hating this, on the contrary, I am absolutely loving it, and although I do hurt, a lot, I am more full of energy than you could possibly imagine. I looked at the calories for BMF in a session for an average man, about 700 calories, I figure as a heavy dude it must be more than that, remember though Im not concentrating on weight loss. Im working on getting there, doing my thing and enjoying the process. The weather tonight was foggy, and rainy, not cold, perfect conditions I…

British Military Fitness Part 2
British Military Fitness Part 2 Ok so here is the drill, I went to fitness last Wednesday, to be honest, my body still hurts from it, I was looking for an excuse not to go, especially as it was freezing, and I Haven’t managed to sort myself some gloves yet. I went easy on food today, as I figured by the law of averages it was going to be a tough one, new start to the week and all that. Apparently I have a core, it was hit like a mother tonight, my body is wheezing and hiccuping all the time. We did squats, burpees, planks, mountain climbers and some…

British Military Fitness Part 1
British Military Fitness Part 1 Well, my friends out there will no doubt know that I am grossly overweight and I go through fads of fitness and exercise and diets, and they work for a bit and then I revert to type and bang back where I started. I was thinking about what I wanted to do, how could I change my life. I considered martial arts again, I love martial arts and they have been kind to me, so why not start a new art and concentrate on fitness that way. It was possible but not ringing my bell. I further considered yoga and aerobics, neither were at the…
